As a parent, it’s hard to make sure your kids are getting enough fruit and vegetables in to their diet. A lot of children are fussy eaters, so getting them to eat something healthy can be an ongoing battle. That’s why we have put together this little list of ways to make fruit and vegetables more appealing and help your kids get the nutrition they need.
What you don’t know won’t hurt you!
One way to get your kids to eat their fruit and veg is to hide it within other foods they love. There are lots of different ways you can do this. Grating and mixing vegetables into your meals is one simple option, with popular and healthy choices including fritters, muffins and rissoles. Sweet potato and pumpkin are easy veggies to disguise, particularly in pasta dishes and lasagne. For dessert, something like avocado chocolate mousse is delicious, yet healthy, and will give your child a multitude of much needed vitamins and good fats.
Making it Fun
Kids love to have fun! Why not make eating more interesting and tantalising by adding a little fun to their dishes. For example, edible food art in the shape of faces and animals are both fun to make and eat. Jazz up mash potatoes by combining other vegetables to change the colour to orange, green or pink. Fruit is another easy thing to make pleasing to the eye, just cut up lots of colourful morsels and make a fruit kebab!

It tastes good yet it’s still healthy? Is that possible? Well, yes it is, and your kids will love it too! There are lots of great healthy treats and junk food alternatives that will satisfy your kids’ cravings without resorting to unhealthy snacks and meals. Instead of chips, make your own root vegetable crisps. Rather than an iced chocolate, go for a homemade chocolate banana milkshake. Change up a pizza with a cauliflower crust and switch the sugar filled ice block for a fruit popsicle – the options are endless!
Go on a Journey Together
Food is more fun when you know the journey behind it. There is nothing quite like making your own meals. Making meals together is a great way to get the kids involved and get them eating healthier, with easier recipes such as pasta and omelettes a popular choice.
